The Podcast about Art and the Creative Process

Episode 10: Makerspaces! (feat. Eric)

“We just don’t have enough spaces for these bits!” - John Franklin

Arts, Crafts, Education, Games, & Bit Space

Today’s episode is special because, for once, one of the people speaking knows what they’re talking about!

We dive in to the topic of makerspaces, shared work spaces that provide communities with various tools used in woodworking, laser cutting, 3D printing, software design, and all kinds of similar DIY projects. John and JJ are joined by Eric Eldridge, one of the guides working at local Chicago makerspace Bit Space. With him we discuss the links between education and creativity, the importance of play in learning, the value of these kinds of spaces, and Metroid Prime.

Summer may have come and gone, but we at SOTSOG are ready for a vacaction of our own! This episode will conclude our first season, with JJ and John taking a quick break to come up with fresh ideas, take in listener suggestions, and prepare themselves for a brand new season of high quality, high fidelity, high financin’ podcasting content. In the meantime, don’t be afraid to reach out for comments, suggestions, or your own mini-inspirations.

A huge thank you to Eric and Bit Space for letting us learn more about the work they do!
